The Garrett, a luxury residential building on Capitol Hill, needed a signature biophilic feature for its central atrium space. The challenge was creating a lush, layered tropical landscape that would provide visual impact from multiple viewing angles while integrating planter beds of varying sizes and an under-staircase feature area.
Interior Plantscapes designed and installed 189 tropical and foliage plants using a multi-layered strategy. The main atrium planter bed features five King Sago Palms and a 17-inch Philodendron Selloum specimen. We layered in Philodendron Monstera Deliciosa in multiple sizes, creating varied heights and leaf textures. An 18-inch Ficus Nittida serves as a focal point tree. Mid-level plantings include 15 Dracaena Limelight and 12 Dracaena Marley plants.
The medium planter bed mirrors the design with three King Sago Palms, multiple Philodendron Monstera Deliciosa specimens (30 at 8-inch size), and seven Dracaena Limelight plants. The under-staircase planter features 20 Dracaena Warneckii Lemon Lime and 20 Sansevieria Zeylanica that thrive in lower light, anchored by two Philodendron Selloum specimens. We integrated 40 pieces of 9-foot Boston Ivy garland throughout the installation.
